Prerequisite: Intro to Compassionate Communication workshop or basic understanding of Compassionate Communication- Contact Cory if you have questions about this.
Are you looking for more effective ways to connect and communicate with people?
Do you believe our families, communities, cities, country, and world would be better if we understood ourselves and others better?
“[Compassionate communication] guides us in reframing how we express ourselves and hear others. Instead of habitual, automatic reactions, our words become conscious responses based firmly on awareness of what we are perceiving, feeling, and wanting. We are led to express ourselves with honesty and clarity, while simultaneously paying others a respectful and empathic attention.”
Marshall Rosenberg, developer of Compassionate Communication
In this 4-week class, you will learn the fundamentals of Compassionate Communication. The primary goal of Compassionate Communication is connection - with self and others - with the secondary goal of both realizing and addressing the needs of all parties, thus contributing to each person’s thriving. To be clear, this is very much a practice, and like any practice, there will be leaps forward, stumbles, successes, mistakes, and, with some self-reflection, lots of learning.
The class is highly participatory, with an emphasis on learning key assumptions of Compassionate Communication and practicing different skills each week. Themes for the week are as follows:
August 29: Fun with Feelings: How can we notice, name and connect with our feelings?
September 5: Honoring Needs: How can we cultivate awareness and appreciation of our needs?
September 26: Receiving Difficult Messages: What are the four ways to receive difficult messages and how can we move from responses that disconnect us to ones that connect us?
October 3: Making Requests to Meet Needs: How can we make requests to meet our needs?
The most useful tools to bring to class will be curiosity, openness, and humility. A notebook and pen are also handy!
In order to make the class accessible to more people, it is offered on a sliding scale from $40 to $200 ($40, $120, $160, $200) or $10, $30, $40, or $50 per class. Please consider mindfully what you are able to invest. If you are able to pay at the highest level, you are supporting my ability to offer the class at the lowest level.
A $40 deposit (full payment for those choosing $40 payment level) is required at the time of registration. To pay $120, or $160 at the time of registration, use coupon codes 4W120 or 4W160.
