In this 5-week class, you will learn the fundamentals of Compassionate Communication. The primary goal of Compassionate Communication is connection - with self and others - with the secondary goal of both realizing and addressing the needs of all parties, thus contributing to each person’s thriving. To be clear, this is very much a practice, and like any practice, there will be leaps forward, stumbles, successes, mistakes, and, with some self-reflection, lots of learning.
The class is highly participatory, with an emphasis on learning key assumptions of Compassionate Communication and practicing different skills each week. Themes for the week are as follows:
June 11: Fun with Feelings: How can we notice, name and connect with our feelings?
June 18: Honoring Needs: How can we cultivate awareness and appreciation of our needs?
June 25: Receiving Difficult Messages: What are the four ways to receive difficult messages and how can we move from responses that disconnect us to ones that connect us?
July 2: Making Requests to Meet Needs: How can we make requests to meet our needs?
July 9: Self-Empathy: How can we nurture self-connection and compassion?
The most useful tools to bring to class will be curiosity, openness, and humility. A notebook and pen are also handy!
Note that this is a 5-week class, but you may register for the entire series or for individual sessions.
In order to make the class accessible to more people, it is offered on a sliding scale from $50 to $250 ($50, $150, $200, $250) or $10, $30, $40, or $50 per class. Please consider mindfully what you are able to invest.
